GA Minutes for August 4, 2012

Welcome

Reportbacks

Rachel: A few of us from the home defense are going to trial either August 31 or September 28.

Syria Vigil

Josh B.: We will be holding a candlelight vigil for Syria every Saturday at 8:00pm at the Capitol starting August 11.

Outreach

Derek: We went to an emergency meeting with Jobs with Justice and the Teamsters about the arrest quota the RPD chief has put into place. There will be a press conference at City Council Tuesday, August 7, 6:30pm, then two weeks later, we are going to the 1:00pm City Council meeting to try and get on the agenda.

Communications

Mark: The communications working group now entails a lot of things. We had a conference call this week to begin working on stuff and we will meet again this week, Wednesday, August 8, 8:30pm. We will have proposals for next Saturday.

Proposals

Give $100 each (from an autonomous collection of donations) to the lawyers who have helped us: John McWilliam, Steve, Scott Holmes, Nick Woomer, and Peter Gilbert. Passed.

Adopt the Statement of Interdependence (on the forums). Passed.

Proposal that our only five working groups for now are Communications, Finance, Outreach, Direct Action, and Facilitation--all other working groups gone. Passed.

Proposal that our forums will have one board for each working group, one "general discussion" board, one "proposals" board, one "forum/website support," one "inactive working groups" board where we will move all other working and affinity group posts (can still be read and replied to), one "archived posts" board where we can move all the other "general" boards besides "general discussion" and "proposals," and a calendar redirect link. Passed.

Proposal to get ourselves on the OrganizeNorthCarolina.org calendar and add a redirect link to their calendar from our forums with a statement saying we do not necessarily support the other organizations listed on the calendar (Communications to decide the wording). Passed.

Proposal for all working groups to announce a meeting on the forums and give a report-back to GA by September 1 of their rebooting. Passed.

Proposal for Facilitation to institute a 2-minute time limit on stack comments as needed. Withdrawn--facilitation will decide the best way to implement this, if any.

Pre-proposal

Dyck: To send our newsletter to NewsWire, who will put pieces of our newsletter in their newsletter.

Mark: Communications already sends the newsletter to lots of organizations and we don't know what they do with it.

Announcements

Dyck: brought "Anti-Occupy Law Ends Right to Protest" article, talked with us about the law that says the Secret Service can basically arrest anyone.

Greg: I went to the prison rally last week and they mislead us with signs about gangs.

Charles: Summary of protests around the world.

Rachel: As Occupy Raleigh reboots, it's time for me to reflect on and analyze the data I've collected. I'll still be doing interviews but I will no longer be taking notes on GAs, working group meetings, etc.

Jim: We should have a reboot party, with food. (Twinkles!)

Josh: We need to start planning October 13 (one-year anniversary rally).

Charles: Jeremy and I already started.

Mark: If you have anything you'd like in the newsletter, please get it to me by Wednesday morning.
